$198m backup power plant for Wartsila

The construction of a 250 megawatt backup power plant in Estonia, valued at $189 million, has been awarded to Wartsila.
The company will build the plant in two stages, the first of which is planned to be ready by 2013, and the second by 2014. It is planned to run only when needed, and is designed to operate on gas and liquid fuel to ensure it is ready to operate in extreme conditions.

The plant will make up one-sixth of Estonia’s peak load, allowing a large part of the winter power demand of Tallinn to be covered during the winter months.
