1. Dr Graham Cooley CEO ITM Power . Will talk about ITM’s fuel cell project and place it in the UK and European context.
2. Roger Faulkner. Ballistic Breakers. A new approach to a DC circuit Breaker that is scalable to any voltage, any current. In order to build a supergrid, it is most economical to use very high capacity lines, as are enabled by elpipes (see complementary paper) on the order of 30GW; this can only be done if a viable circuit breaker is devised that has low on state losses, and is inexpensive enough to be deployed between each set of next-neighbor power taps on an HVDC supergrid. In this scenario, the natural morphology of the supergrid is composed of loops (as described in IEEE Power & energy Society paper from last summer).

Independent Power Energy & Electricity Conference and Exhibition - 18th and 19th April 2012 National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham
Following the huge success of the previous Independent Power Energy & Electricity Conference and Exhibitionheld at the NEC, in 2010 with speakers provided exclusively by Claverton Energy Group, the organisers have decided to repeat the event but with a higher publicity profile and with an expanded emphasis on the conference format.
They will be building a bigger and better auditorium and giving greater publicity which will ensure expanded numbers attending. (The experience was that 2010 event auditorium was not really large enough, and was insufficiently isolated from the rest of the exhibition).
All papers will be included in various of the organisers technical magazines which circulate all over the world.
The focus is on Independent Power Energy and Electricity so we are looking for articles dealing with aspects of smaller generators - chp, standby plant, diesel generators, peak lopping, load management, reserve service, fuel cells, solar, wind, ORC, biomass power, issues with grid integration of independent power etc.
We already have one paper from an expert looking at the impact of small independent renewables on distribution grids and another leading manufacturer on the latest low emission engines for chp.
All papers will be subsequently posted on the Claverton and IPEE websites.
So, if you would like to offer a paper, then please send a brief title and abstract.
Looking forward to meeting you again at Birmingham.
Kind regards
Dave Andrews
