ABB receives order from Al Toukhi Group in Saudi Arabia

Power and automation technology group ABB has received an order worth over $40m from the Al Toukhi Group for a high-voltage gas-insulated switchgear.

ABB will supply 420kV GIS equipment that will form an integral part of the New Muhayil West and Al Omran substations being built for Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).

The substations are expected to be fully-operational in June 2014.

Bernhard Jucker, ABB Power Products division head, said: "The new substations where this GIS equipment will be installed, will enhance power capacity and help meet growing electricity demand to support industrial development in the country."

New Muhayil, which is connected to the Shuqaiq and Namera North transmission network, is being constructed to meet the growing demand for electricity in the southwestern part of Saudi Arabia.

Recently, the Switzerland-based group has announced a $40m investment for the construction of a new manufacturing plant for high-voltage GIS and transformer service workshop in Saudi Arabia.
