Spanish renewables project developer Acciona Energy has started development on the 38MW Golice wind park in Lubuskie province, Poland.
The project will include 19 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2MW, and is located in the west of the country.
The facility will generate enough clean electricity to power 40,000 Polish homes and is expected to curb 77,625t of CO2 every year.
Estimates are in line with Poland's objective of generating 15% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020, as well as reducing its heavy dependence on fossil fuels, particularly coal.
Acciona Energy will also start construction of a new wind park with an installed capacity of 33 MW in Poland.
Scheduled in 2012, the wind farm is located in the town of Krobia in the district of Gostyn, also in the west of the country.
The company also owns and operates wind parks, with another six in Europe; these are in Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portgual and Spain. In addition, it also has operations in Australia, Canada, India, Mexico, South Korea and the US.
The Golice wind park represents an investment of around €57m.
