Acciona has been awarded a contract to supply a total of 153MW of wind turbines for Atlantic Energias Renovaveis in Brazil.
Under the contract, Acciona's subsidiary Acciona Windpower (AWP) will deliver 51 AW 125/3000 turbines to the Santa Vitoria do Palmar wind farm in Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state.
In addition to providing operations and maintenance services for the turbines over a 15-year period, AWP will install the 3MW turbines, featuring 125m rotor diameter, on 120m high concrete.
AWP Brasil director Christiano Forman said that the contracts with Atlantic expand the company's presence in Brazil and confirm the special adaptability of its large AW3000 turbines to the characteristics of the wind power potential of the country.
"We have a very competitive machine, with options that make it ideal for a large number of sites," Forman said.
Capable of capturing wind energy from a swept area of more than 12,300m², the 125m rotor delivers a level of energy production that can make low-wind sites attractive to wind farm developers and owners.
AWP, which currently has six supply orders in Brazil totaling 666MW, is building a nacelle factory that is planned to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.
AWP also signed a contract for the supply of 90MW of wind turbines to the Brazilian wind power developer Río Energy.
As part of the deal, AWP will deliver and install 30 3MW turbines for the Itarema wind power complex in the state of Ceará.
