Alfons Hakans Salvage Team Refloats Phoenix J Grounded Off Rauma, Finland

On Wednesday 18 April 2012 Ro-Ro vessel Phoenix J ran aground outside of Rauma on her voyage from Rauma to Gävle.

As a result the ship’s hull and fuel tanks were at risk of further damage.

Alfons Håkans Salvage and Diving team arrived onboard at the same day and immediately began preparations for refloating the stricken vessel. The salvage operation began on Thursday 19 April after careful evaluation of the findings onboard Phoenix J.

However, on Saturday 21 April 2012 the salvage operation ceased due to a heavy swell but continued early on Sunday morning.

The Phoenix J was successfully refloated at 1545 on Sunday 22 April assisted by Alfons Håkans tugs Apollon, Neptun and Jason.

As a result of the successful and safe operation, the majority of the cargo was salved intact, there was no environmental damage and no additional damage was caused to the ship’s hull by the salvage operation.
