French engineering group Alstom will establish two manufacturing facilities in France for the production of 6MW of offshore wind turbines.
The sites will be located in port areas of Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique) and Cherbourg (Manche).
Alstom plans to produce towers and blades in partnership with LM Wind Power and nacelles and generators.
The company will allow the production of the Haliade 150, which is the first new generation 6MW offshore wind turbine, capable of supplying approximately 5,000 homes with power.
The first prototype will be subjected to an onshore test next year and pre-serial production units are planned in 2013 and 2014.
