Avista to Buy Power from US Wind Project

Avista has agreed to purchase power from First Wind's proposed Palouse Wind project in Washington, US.

Under the 30-year power purchase agreement, Avista will buy about 40MW of energy, or up to 100MW of nameplate wind capacity, starting in 2012.

The Palouse wind farm will generate energy, which is sufficient to power 30,000 homes.

Palouse Wind will tie into Avista's electric system through Avista's Benewah / Shawnee transmission line.

The power purchased from the wind farm qualifies under the Washington State's Energy Independence Act and helps to meet Avista's renewable portfolio standard requirements for 2016.
