Bermuda: Greater Responsibility to Be Bestowed on Ship Owners

A greater responsibility is to be bestowed on ship owners in relation to providing medical care to the crew members onboard their vessels, with the new amendments to Merchant Shipping Amendment Act being prepared by the Bermuda House of Assembly, the Royal Gazette informed.

The announced changes stipulate obligatory provision of free food and drinking water in accordance with the workers’ cultural and religious affiliations or preferences.

Moreover, more stringent requirements will be imposed on  ship owners, who will be obliged to provide each seafarer with material assistance for potential costs incurred as a consequence of injury, sickness or death.
