Brazil’s Paranaguá and Antonina port authority Appa is planning 165mn reais (US$106mn) in work for Antonina port, a spokesperson from the authority told BNamericas.
“We are currently awaiting funds from the federal government,” the spokesperson said, adding that the work schedule will depend on when the funding is released.
The bulk of the investment will go toward a 100mn-real maintenance dredging project, which will also benefit neighboring Paranaguá port.
Appa is also planning a 30mn-real project to extend Antonina’s wharf by 140m, while 15mn reais will go towards demolition and removal of rocks from the port’s main canal.
Finally, the port authority aims to pave a 50,000m2 area of its shipyard and build a 5,000m2 warehouse. The two projects are budgeted at 10mn reais apiece, according to the official.
Paranaguá and Antonina ports, located in the southern state of Paraná, handled 38.2Mt of cargo during 2010, up 22% over the previous year.
