Brazil: Aratu Port Prepares for Expansion


As BNamericas reports, the Aratu Port in the northeastern Brazil’s Bahia state plans to invest 685 million BRL (USD 357 million) in port expansion work this year.

The Chairman of the State Port Authority Codeba, José Muniz Rebouças told BNamericas that the Port Authority is preparing to launch a 25-year tender to lease one of the port’s dry bulk terminals. The awardee will spend 150 million BRL (USD 77,8 million) on electronic upgrades, new conveyor belts and expansion of the patio, among other works.

Also the Authority plans to spend 100 million BRL (USD 51,9 million) to expand the port’s liquid bulk terminal with its lease holder providing another 400mn-500mn BRL (USD 207-259 million). The work will entail building two berths and increasing liquid storage capacity.

Finally, 35 million BRL (USD 18,16 million) will be spent for improving access roads and rail lines in the area as well as building waste management and sewerage treatment facilities.
