Global Spatial Technology Solutions Inc. (“GSTS”), a provider of Intelligent Maritime Solutions, has signed a trial agreement with Resolute Forest Products to provide a maritime vessel management capability that will enhance the overall marine logistics efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of vessels.
Under the agreement, GSTS will provide an in-depth analysis of vessel movement from port to port through the use of space based vessel-tracking data provided by exactEarth. “This is an exciting opportunity to develop a capability that could one day be used by exporters, shipping lines and ports not only in Canada but also around the world to increase operational efficiency and minimize emissions caused by excessive speeds and loiter times,” stated Richard Kolacz, President and Co-founder of GSTS. “We are very pleased to be working with Resolute Forest Products, a company that has demonstrated sustainability leadership, particularly in the area of greenhouse gas reductions. Using global vessel data, we are able to provide companies and civil agencies with intelligent solutions for vessel monitoring and management at any point on the earth, including the Arctic regions,” added Kolacz.
“We see this technology as an innovative approach that can result in increased efficiencies and enable Resolute to further reduce its carbon footprint,” stated Richard Garneau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Resolute Forest Products.
Funding from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario through the Mitacs Enterprise program has supported the development of this capability through an award to GSTS.
