Now, it is possible for Danish ships engaged on international voyages to be surveyed and certified in accordance with the Maritime Labour Convention.
On 20 August 2013, the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) enters into force. This means that, from this date, all Danish ships with a gross tonnage above 500 must hold a certificate in order to call at ports in other countries. The Convention gives seafarers some distinct, standardized rights. At the same time, there will be a level playing field as regards seafarers’ working conditions.
Certification
The Danish orders that ensure Denmark’s implementation of the MLC are presently being issued and will enter into force on the same date as the MLC.
The certification process has been initiated on 20 March 2013 and runs until 20 August 2013. In this manner, it is possible for Danish ships to be surveyed and certified so that they are ready when the Convention takes effect.
