China: Huanghai Shipbuilding Announces Newbuilding Contract


Shandong-based Huanghai Shipbuilding recently announced its newbuilding contract with Bohai Ferry for the construction of four mega international Ro-Ro.

The current biggest Ro-Ro domesticly, the 1600-seat and 2000m-lane “Zhu Series”, were all built by Huanghai Shipbuilding for Bohai Ferry. Now Huanghai is to break the present record by building the 2296-seat and 300-unit Ro-Ro. The new vessels measure 178.8m in length, 28m in width and with a lane of 2500m and total tonnage of 27K dwt.

The estimated value for the project is about $251.5m and the delivery is scheduled in 2013. The new Ro-Ro can not only be used on domestic Ro-Ro routes but also could satisfy the requirements of overseas Ro-Ro routes like in S.Korea and Taiwan.

Huanghai Shipbuilding has built seven large Ro-Ros till now and still has another three under construction, occupying 60% of national market.
