China-based private shipbuilder Jinhai Heavy Industries has won its first containership order from UK-based Graig Shipping to build 26 units of 2,000 teu ships.
The first batch of 3 plus 3 ships are scheduled for delivery in 2013, Jinhai announced on its website on Tuesday. “Apart from winning the 2,000 teu vessels building contract, Jinhai looks forward to developing long-term cooperation with British shipowners on projects for this series of ships and others,” Jinhai said. Jinhai had earlier this year won orders to build 2 plus 2 VLCCs of 320,000 dwt and 1 plus 1 bulk carriers of 81,500 dwt.
Jinhai Heavy Industry Co., Ltd, originating from Jinhaiwan Shipyard Co., Ltd, is a large-scale shipbuilding company built in the light of modern enterprise system. It’s set up by Zhouji Group,and its share is held by Grand China Logistics Group under HNA Group when joining in HNA Group in July 2009. The company is regarded by Zhejiang provincial government as one of the key projects leading the adjustment of the provincial economic structure and developing the equipment manufacturing industry. It is also awarded as one of the key enterprises in provincial industry as well as one of the provincial high-tech enterprises. So far, the hand-hold orders rank top 20 and top 5 separately in international and domestic shipping industry.
