Details : | MTU MTU Friedrichshafen is one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of large diesel engines and complete drive systems. Diesel engines in the 116 to 9,000 kW (158 to 12,250 HP) power range are manufactured for marine propulsion, heavy vehicles, power generation and railroad applications. Through its latest development, Series 8000, MTU sets new standards in the sector of large diesel engines. With a power of 9,000kW (12,250HP), the new 20V 8000 is the most innovative and technically-advanced engine of its power class.
The new Series 2000 and 4000 engines in the 330 up to 3,010 kW (449 to 4,094 HP) power range were jointly developed with the American cooperation partner Detroit Diesel Corporation. MTUs main concern in the development phase is on designing high-power-concentration engines combining compactness and accessory integration with special durability. In the Series 4000 engines developed jointly with DDC, MTU - as the first large-engine manufacturer in the world - introduced the Common-Rail Injection System as standard equipment. It was the result of co-operation with the MTU subsidiary, L Orange, which can be counted among the worlds leading manufacturers of injection systems for large engines. Our sales program for electric power generation covers much more than diesel engines, gas engines and gas turbines. We also supply complete systems and plant packages. And of course, as a prime power contractor, MTU will also take over responsibility for entire power generation stations if required. MTU Friedrichshafen traditionally also develops complete drive systems for the tracked-vehicle sector. The MTU diesel engine program is complemented by electronic monitoring and control systems and combined diesel engine and gas turbine propulsion systems. In an MTU product division, the company manufactures drive shafts for automobiles and light commercial vehicles. MTU belongs to the largest European drive shaft manufacturers with an annual production of approximately 1,000,000 shafts and sales of approximately 206 million DM (105,5 million EURO). MTUs export share of total sales is almost 80% if one considers only the engine business without drive shaft sales. The New Technology Division in Munich-Ottobrunn is co-operating with partners on the next generation of energy transformations with the product development of a high-temperature fuel cell and a high-performance electrolyzer.
The MTU management systems for quality and environmental issues meet the latest and most sophisticated standards worldwide..
MTU has a long tradition in the development, manufacture and supply of marine systems. Our engines are liquid-cooled four-stroke units for propulsion or on-board power generation. More than 74,000 units have been supplied to date. Over 24,000 alone are serving marine applications, furnishing ample proof of MTU's close ties with the marine community. Plant control is provided by state-of-the-art monitoring and control systems from MTU Elektronik. Whether main propulsion or auxiliary service - each MTU engine fulfills the requirements of the classification societies. Continuous investment in product research, development and support are reflected in efficient and technologically advanced propulsion and related systems serving a multitude of marine applications
