The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has signed an agreement with a consortium for the construction of a 2,000MW independent power project in Oman.
The consortium includes Marubeni, Chubu Electric Power, Qatar Electricity & Water Company and Multitech.
The $1.82bn project will be located in the Sur Industrial Estate and use natural gas supplied by the Ministry of Oil and Gas.
The plant will be constructed in two phases with the first 433MW to begin operations in 2013 and the remaining 1,567MW in 2014.
Under a 15-year power purchase agreement OPWP will purchase the entire power generated from the plant, reports Reuters.
