China Water and Electric Company (CWEC) has signed a contract with the Guinean Government to construct a hydroelectric dam in Kaleta, in the region of Kindia.
CWEC and the Guinea Government will provide 75% and 25% of funding respectively to construct the dam, estimated to cost $526m.
The Kaleta dam will have a water volume of 23 million cubic metres and will be equipped with three turbines capable of generating 240.5MW of electricity.
Under the contract, the company will also construct a 146km electricity transmission line of 146km.
Construction of the dam is expected to begin in December and is set to take two years to complete.
