Demag Cranes and Components has secured a contract from Granada Material Handling to supply 164 electric wire rope hoists for a renewable energy project.
This contract follows the recent contract awarded by RWE npower renewables to Granada to design, supply, third-party certify, deliver, test and commission crane systems for the new Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm.
The wind farm is being constructed about 13km off the north Wales coast, in water depths of 12m to 28m. and will be equipped with 160 wind turbines and two substations.
Installation of the turbines is scheduled for the final quarter of 2011 and power generation is expected to begin during 2013, becoming fully operational by the end of 2014.
Upon completion, the plant will be capable of generating 576MW, sufficient to power about 400,000 homes.
