On 7 June 2013, Denmark signed a cooperation agreement with Brazil strengthening cooperation in the field of maritime training and education.
Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority Andreas Nordseth says: “I am very satisfied with the agreement, which strengthens cooperation between Denmark and Brazil. We have much to learn from each other and I am convinced that the agreement will be of benefit to the students and the maritime cluster in both countries.”
The cooperation agreement is one of the initiatives in the Government’s Plan for Growth in the Blue Denmark intended to ensure that highly educated labour is available to Danish companies. The agreement makes it possible to exchange students and teachers. At the same time, the agreement is a good basis for further cooperation in the maritime field, where Brazil is becoming a constantly more important market for Danish shipping.
The agreement with Brazil is, inter alia, to contribute to the Blue Denmark’s continued ability to attract the most skilled international students and employees who are able to assist in strengthening the international environments in the maritime training institutions and in the companies.
Mr Nordseth says: “The agreement with Brazil strengthens the international outlook of the international maritime education and training programmes and may thus contribute to Denmark’s availability of highly educated labour with an international understanding, experiences and networks.”
The agreement has become possible thanks to a close cooperation between the Danish Maritime Authority, the Danish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education as well as the Danish representations in Brazil, which have acted as a link between the Danish and Brazilian authorities.
