AVR generally stands for Automatic Voltage Regulator. It's a device designed to regulate voltage automatically – that is, to take a fluctuating voltage level and turn it into a constant voltage level. AVRs are often used in power generation systems to stabilize the output voltage despite variations in the load characteristics.
In many cases, AVR is a critical component in power generator sets (like those powered by gas or diesel engines) to ensure the voltage of the electricity produced by the generator remains within the required range and doesn't fluctuate in a way that could damage equipment.
