French Tanker Hijacked Off Ivory Coast

The tanker ship Gascogne owned by the French group Sea-Tankers was reported missing Sunday off South of Abidjan port, Ivory Coast carrying 17 crew members.

Owners off an oil tanker reported that they had lost contact with their vessel while underway and suspect the vessel may have been hijacked.

“The boat was hijacked in international waters,” Alexis Guie, in charge of communication at Abidjan port, told AFP. The International Maritime Bureau earlier said that a French tanker disappeared at the weekend off the West African country, apparently in an act of piracy.
