Nordic Yards, manufacturer of innovative special ships and major maritime projects for the offshore wind and other industries, has signed a contract for the construction of a Wind Turbine Service Jack Up Vessel (WTSJUV).
The client is the Danish company DBB Jack-Up Services A/S, based in Aarhus. With its state-of-the-art equipment, the innovative company offers first-class service for the offshore wind turbine industry.
The special vessel commissioned from Nordic Yards will be used for servicing offshore wind turbines and is able to work under the most challenging conditions. It is 80 metres long, 32 metres wide and has a novel jack-up system. I.e. the vessel can be set up for its work at sea on four lifting legs and replace the heaviest wind turbine components at a height of up to 100 metres with the on-board crane. The vessel is suitable for maintenance works at a water depth of up to 45 metres and has, due to its legs, a stable stand.
DBB Jack-Up Services A/S has developed the concept of the special vessel based on the experiences with the self-elevating Jack Up Vessel M/V Wind. A renowned design firm from Denmark is involved in the creation of the basic design. The focus is on the further development of the jack-up system, which lifts the ship into the air as a working platform.

The production of the vessel will be carried out at the yards in Rostock-Warnemünde and Wismar and last approximately one year. Start of construction is planned for spring 2013, delivery scheduled for spring 2014. Additionally, there is an option for the construction of two more vessels.
