Hyundai Heavy Industries Co, South Korea's leading shipbuilder, said that the value of its orders won in the first half of the year jumped 82% YoY due to increased demand for large and high
priced ships.As per report, Hyundai Heavy clinched USD 18.1 billion of new orders in the January to June 2011 period as compared with USD 9.9 billion a year earlier.
Specifically, the shipbuilder won shipbuilding orders valued at USD 8.5 billion in the first half as compared with USD 1.7 billion a year earlier. Hyundai Heavy also clinched deals worth USD 3.2 billion to build offshore facilities, up by 21% YoY.
The company did not reveal its first-half sales and operating income. The shipyard is expected to report its second-quarter earnings early next month.
In the first three months of the year, Hyundai Heavy reported a profit of KRW 903 billion, up by 21% YoY.
