InterGen to Construct 900MW CCGT Plant in the UK

InterGen has received approval from the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change to construct a 900MW London Gateway Logistics Park in Essex, the UK.

The £600m project will be equipped with turbines based on natural gas combined cycle technology (CCGT), which aims to ensure maximum energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by 50%.

The natural gas-fired power plant is expected to start operations by 2015.

InterGen global CEO Tim Menzie said the gas-fired plants can generate electricity flexibly, which will support intermittent and base-load power providers that rely on wind.
