The National Iranian Offshore Oil Company (NIOOC) plans to simultaneously develop six new gas fields in the Persian Gulf with the in-place gas reserves of 25.7 trillion cubic feet, a report says.
The gas fields, which include Lavan, Resalat, Reshadat, Salman, Kangan, Hamoun and Gorzin, are expected to produce about 10 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, Mehr news agency reported Tuesday.
The output will be equivalent to that of 9 to 10 phases of the giant South Pars gas field.
The South Pars gas field is shared by Iran and Qatar. The Iranian share, which is divided into 24 phases, has about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, or about eight percent of the total world reserves.
Enjoying extensive gas reserves, Iran's Lavan region in the Persian Gulf has turned to a reliable source of gas production for the country over the past two years.
Iran has the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia.
