Jabsco marine sea water pump 17367 8000 Detroit Diesel.
The JMP JPR-G6300 is a Detroit Diesel Replacement Engine Cooling Seawater Pump, replacement pump for Detroit Diesel pump models 23507973, 23507475, 23507476, 23507477, 23522698, 8923363, with Neoprene Impeller, 2 inch flange ports.
This is a replacement pump for Detroit Diesel pump models 23507973, 23507475, 23507476, 23507477, 23522698, 8923363; and Jabsco pump models 18760-0001, 17367-8000.
This pump can be used as an non-OEM replacement raw water engine cooling pump.
This flexible impeller Raw Water / Seawater Engine Cooling Pump is designed and manufactured especially for engine cooling applications.
This pump has a strong bronze body, with heavy duty grade casting, a 3X series non-magnetic marine grade shaft, a long life mechanical seal, long-lasting high performance impellers, and O-Ring seals on the end covers.
The design allows spare parts to be easily replaced. Especially the wearable flexible impeller can be conveniently yet cheaply (about $50 more or less) purchased on eBay by searching "jabsco impeller", then spend about half hour to replace the worn one.
It has a high volume flow capacity, and the flexible impeller pump is self-priming and provides an efficient solution to most raw water pumping needs.
This pump can pass fairly large solids without clogging or damaging the pumps.
This engine cooling pump is designed to the demands of engine manufacturers and are built to take rough treatment.
This Pump has one moving part - a tough, long-lived, wear-resistant flexible impeller lubricated by the liquid being pumped. No metal-to-metal pumping action - no gears to jam, clog or become noisy.
It will not be air-locked - the pump will continue to operate even when air passes through the system, and it delivers a smooth even pulsation free flow.
The Flexible Impeller in this pump generates high rubbing friction unless lubricated by the liquid being pumped. A lack of liquid will cause the impeller to degrade rapidly.
You may have to buy a new impeller if dry run over 5 to 10 minutes; So Never run it dry!!!
Also don't rotate it in wrong direction (clockwise at current setting), such rotation need brutal torque, then damage the impeller!
In fact, the working rotation direction can be changed by taking out of the impeller then re-installing while squeezing some fins towards opposite direction in the narrow portion of chamber, and once done, the wrong direction is redefined; The change is only for other unspecified applications, so needless for the intended Detroit Engine application.
In future, when it's time to replace the worn impeller, you need remember the squeezed direction before taking it out, so as correctly install a new one.
Because it works by periodically bending-straitening the fins of impeller, so even a dry-test need substantial torque that may exceed tester's muscle, I recommend testing by applying a pipe wrench with a piece of junk cloth wrapping the drive gear, or better test it after installation.
If no plan of immediate usage, then, strategic storage need periodic half-turn maintenance per season, so as to straighten those partial bent fins; otherwise the impeller material neoprene may sustain it's bent shape of partial fins. I recommend taking out of the impeller if for long term storage beyond many years.
On initial start-up pump must be primed to prevent dry-running of the impeller; This pump is self-priming, and will self-prime at low or high speeds; It will pump instantly, and a suction lift of 15 feet is possible when impeller is wet and pump fully primed; Suction lines must be air tight in order for pump to self prime.
I also have an ebay listing for it:
