Koch Hires Supertanker to Store Oil at Sea, Broker Optima Says

Koch Supply & Trading Co. booked a very large crude carrier to store oil at sea, according to Optima Shipbrokers Ltd. Koch hired the British Purpose at a daily rate of $22,000

, for a period of 30-60 days, Optima said in a report e-mailed today. Koch spokeswoman Mary Beth Jarvis declined to comment when contacted by telephone in Wichita, Kansas.
A VLCC can hold about 2 million barrels of crude. The British Purpose has carrying capacity of 306,000 deadweight tons, according to Optima.
