Pusan National University’s research team has been awarded the Royal Institution for Naval Architects (RINA) medal for best thesis for the fifth time.
Their paper, A New Methodology for Assessing the Safety of Damaged Ships, was written by a team headed by Professor Paik Jeom-Kee, President of the Korea Ship & Offshore Research Institute, Kim Do-Kyun, Park Dong-Hee, Kim Han-Byul Kim and Kim Min-Soo, Principal Specialist at Lloyd’s Register Asia’s Technology Centre Korea (TCK).
The authors described the different types of structural damage to ships and offshore installations caused by accidents and suggested technical innovations that would enable engineers to analyse their structural safety capacity both closely and rapidly.
The paper was a joint technical research project between Pusan National University’s research team and Lloyd’s Register and supported by the Korean government.
The University previously won the award in 1995, 2003, 2008 and 2010.
