MAN Diesel & Turbo, based in Augsburg, Germany, is the world’s leading provider of large-bore diesel engines and turbomachinery for marine and stationary applications. It designs two-stroke and four-stroke engines that are manufactured both by the company and by its licensees. The engines have power outputs ranging from 47 kW to 97MW.
Gas turbines, steam turbines and compressors
MAN Diesel & Turbo also designs and manufactures gas turbines of up to 50 MW, steam turbines of up to 150 MW and compressors with volume flows of up to 1.5 million m³/h and pressures of up to 1,000 bar.
Turbochargers, CP propellers and gas engines
The product range is rounded off by turbochargers, CP propellers, gas engines, engines for locomotives and chemical reactors. MAN Diesel & Turbo’s range of goods includes complete marine propulsion systems, turbomachinery units for the oil & gas as well as the process industries and turnkey power plants. Customers receive worldwide after-sales services marketed under the MAN PrimeServ brand. The company employs around 12,500 staff, primarily in Germany, Denmark, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Italy, India and China; it has a presence in around 150 countries. MAN Diesel & Turbo is a company of the Power Engineering business area of MAN SE, which is listed on the DAX share index of the 30 leading companies in Germany.
Power generation engines
MAN Diesel & Turbo’s activities in the power generation and cogeneration sectors are based on a well established range of diesel engines and a rapidly growing gas engine offering.
Two and four stroke liquid fuel anf biofuel engines
On the liquid fuel side, two and four-stroke engines in a power range from 450kW to 80MW. can utilise heavy and distillate fossil fuels as well as an increasing range of renewable liquid bio-fuels. Currently CO2-neutral bio-fuel engines from MAN Diesel & Turbo are in daily operation on plant oils including palm and jatropha oils, used cooking oils and rendered animal fats.
Single and dual-fuel gas engines
On the gaseous fuel side, single and dual-fuel gas engines from MAN Diesel & Turbo covering a power bracket of 2,3 to 17,55MW are gaining an increasing share of the global market for power generation and cogeneration using both natural and non-natural gases.
Synthetic gas reactors
The production of synthetic liquid fuels from natural gas, biomass or coal as a substitute or extender for conventional fuels will play an increasingly important role in the years to come. Today oil is the most important fuel and thus of huge significance. At the same time we know that the oil reserves will one day be depleted. The search for alternatives is therefore in full swing. Amongst other approaches, the winning of high purity fuels from natural gas, biomass and coal is being pursued.
Synthetic gas-to-liquid reactors
MAN Diesel & Turbo has already undertaken wide-ranging development work in recent years and is involved in the construction of heavy Fischer-Tropsch reactors for international projects.
These MAN Diesel & Turbo reactors will play an increasingly important role in the production of synthetic fuels. Special reactors are needed for these liquefaction processes. Our many years of development work mean we are outstandingly experienced in the construction of reactors for gas-to-liquid (GTL) processes. We already offer Fischer-Tropsch reactors, or so-called GTL reactors, the centerpiece of future two-level GTL plants. Naturally, our customers can also depend on our technological leadership for implementation of BTL (biomass) and CTL (coal) processes for BTL and CTL reactors.
