Mediterranean Shipping Company Uses Visual Network Systems' Visual Performance Manager

Visual Network Systems, a leading provider of application and network performance management solutions for IT organizations, today announced the Mediterranean

Shipping Company Home Terminal (MSC HT) is using its Visual Performance Manager solution to manage overall service quality, improve visibility and reduce the time to troubleshoot performance issues across their Terminal Operation Systems (TOS) and existing and new application implementations.  Complex applications and different support organizations have proven labor intensive and time consuming for MSC HT to identify the actual cause of any particular problem.  Visual Performance Manager provides an independent view of the overall performance of MSC HT's TOS, enabling faster problem isolation, troubleshooting and lessening the risk of service impacting performance-related issues.
"Managing the requirements for the TOS application across two datacenters, six physical distribution locations and 130 access switches is extremely difficult because it is made up of different components ranging from aspects like desktops, cameras for number plate recognition and container damage, badge readers and thin clients, just to name a few," said Tamara Lievens, ICT Infrastructure Manager, MSC HT.  "The Visual Network Systems' solution provides us with an independent view across the entire application, so we were able to quickly pinpoint the problem area and fix it instead of wasting time going back and forth between departments."
MSC HT relies on the TOS to charge and discharge over 4.1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers per year on vessels, rails, trucks and on the yard.  The primary application is a combination of many smaller programs, which over time has evolved into a more complex infrastructure, making managing and troubleshooting application and network-related problems more difficult.  Specifically, visibility is needed to reduce conflict between internal departments and to identify specific details causing the network and/or application to be slow.  Visual Performance Manager has been deployed to manage overall service quality, improve visibility, quickly isolate the root cause of performance issues and reduce time to troubleshoot across the TOS.
"Visual Performance Manager addresses the needs and requirements of large enterprises like MSC HT, one of the busiest shipping ports in the world," said Daryle Debalski, vice president and general manager, Visual Network Systems.  "Not only are we providing an end-to-end performance management solution for MSC HT today, but our portfolio is optimized to meet their needs as the business continues to evolve over time."
