Naming Ceremony for New FESCO’s Dry Bulk Carrier at Chinese Shipyard


China’s Qingshan Shipyard held on January 19, 2012 an official naming ceremony for a new dry bulk carrier FESCO Smolensk ordered by Transportation Group FESCO. Godmother of the vessel – Svetlana Chabrova, wife of Vladimir Chabrova, Director, Department of the Navy branch of OAO “Far Eastern Shipping Company” (FESCO) in Vladivostok.

The 57,000DWT FESCO Smolensk is the third of a series of four dry bulk carriers, being built at the Chinese shipyard. The Russian Group plans to have the newbuildings order completed this year and to take delivery of the fourth sister ship. As a result, the FESCO fleet will be expanded to 51 vessels of total deadweight of about 1 million tons.

The ship main features: Length overall – 189.99 m, breadth – 32.26 m, depth – 18 m, draft – 12 8 m, the volume of 5 holds – 71,500 cbm. The bulker features four cranes each of lifting capacity of 30,000 tons. Upon delivery, the vessel is planned to set sail in her maiden voyage from Indonesia to India with a cargo of coal.

The lead serial ship FESCO Saratov was put into service in July 2011. The sister ship FESCO Simferopol – in November.
