Havyard Group is going to deliver a Havyard 587 design for Fosnavaag Shipping with an option for one further delivery. The design is being described as the wellboat of the future. Fosnavaag Shipping already owns the wellboats “Viktoria Viking” (1000 m3), “Viktoria Lady” (1000 m3) and “Gripfisk” (600 m3), in addition to the prawn trawler “Remøy”, as well as the coastguard vessel “KV Aalesund”.
The company that was founded in 2006 has 70 employees, four of these working in the administration.
A NEW TANK SYSTEM
CEO Olav Remøy in Fosnavaag Shipping expressed his satisfaction with the fact that they have now chosen their design and he has great faith in this being the correct time to go for a newbuild.
“The wellboat industry has been an exciting business to enter and we really believe this is an industry with good future prospects. During the last year-and-a-half we have considered the possibilities of having a new wellboat constructed. We have spent a lot of time in developing the correct design and in choosing the best solutions, as we do believe there has been room for improvements within this field. Even if this is going to be a boat with great capacity, we have however been more concerned with quality than capacity and in holding as much fish as possible. We have also further developed the system already onboard “Viktoria Lady”, which is our only ship containing circular tanks, a system assuring amongst other things that the water quality becomes excellent,” says Olav Remøy. He also finds it pleasing that this new design has been developed in cooperation with a company in the same municipality.
Remøy informs that Fosnavaag Shipping now is in final negotiations with a shipyard regarding the construction of the wellboats.
SETTING A NEW STANDARD
Designer Kjetil Myren at Havyard Design & Engineering (HDE) in Fosnavåg informs that Havyard 587 is presently the largest in a series of wellboat designs developed in close cooperation with Fosnavaag Shipping.
The vessel has three large cylinder tanks for live fish with capacity for an impressive 3250 cubic. The ship is nearly 85 metres long and has accommodation for a crew of 12.
“Havyard 587 will contain the finest within well boat technology, setting a new standard for gentle and environmentally friendly transport and treatment of live fish. The cylindrical cargo tanks and the efficient filter- and water treatment equipment, make it possible to do a sealed transport across long distances and with a greater fish density,” informs Kjetil Myren, who emphasizes that both hull lines and propulsion machinery are designed to suit a high maximum speed, as well as an operational-friendly average speed.
IMPRESSED THE MINISTER
That Havyard is creating something exciting in terms of this most recent wellboat commitment, was also confirmed and at the forefront when Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Lisbeth Berg-Hansen, visited Havyard Group earlier this spring. During this visit, Myren and HDE-Executive Stig Magne Espeseth presented the new designs. The Minister, who is also heavily involved in fish farming, was impressed and showed great interest in Havyard̀̀̀̀̀̀̀̀s new solutions and new vessels.
Stig Magne Espeseth expressed his satisfaction with landing a wellboat contract. “This is the first wellboat design we shall deliver and we have worked long and hard to achieve this. The design is based on experiences that the shipping company has previously made on their three other wellboats, and we think this will become the wellboat of the future with a completely new circulation system that Fosnavaag Shipping has played a big part in developing,” says the HDE-Executive, who informs that delivery of the ship is due in January 2014 with the option for one further delivery six months later.
