The Vaagland Batbyggeri shipyard in Norway has entered into a contract to build a new purse seiner for Norwegian fishing company Fiskebas AS. The ship is a Rolls-Royce design NVC 317 and will have a length overall of 64.2m and breadth of 14m.
It will fish for both pelagic and whitefish, and will be equipped for purse-seining. It has a 1,550m3 cargo capacity, and the holds are constructed for optimum transport of cargo in RSW tanks.
Rolls Royce says that comfort, environmental considerations and catch quality underpin the NVC 317 vessel design. Emphasis has been placed on the 12-man crew’s living quarters and working environment. The vessel features single cabins, a spacious saloon with a separate dining area, a mini-cinema, fitness centre and sauna.
Rolls-Royce will supply the design, complete construction documentation and the vessel’s main equipment, through an integrated design and equipment contract. The vessel will have a hybrid propulsion system, based on Rolls-Royce’s Hybrid Shaft Generator system (HSG), enabling it to be operated in both diesel-electric or diesel-mechanical mode, or a combination of the two.
Much development work, including CFD calculations and model-testing, has been performed in order to design a hull which ensure fuel-efficient speed, low-noise, cost-effective operation and good sea keeping.
Delivery is scheduled for summer 2013.
