Oman: OCL Announces Inclusion of Port Sultan Qaboos in Its GEX Service

Oman Container Lines Inc. (OCL) announces the inclusion of a Port Sultan Qaboos in the Company’s Gulf Express Service (GEX).

On 29th April, the Company introduced largerand faster tonnage on its fixed day weekly Liner service connecting Salalah and Jebel Ali, with the ALTONIA (1,730 TEU capacity). 3 weeks after the Service upgrade, Port Sultan Qaboos will be included from 19th May, creating, for the 1st time, a common user container feeder service between Shipping Lines offering international transshipment connections in Salalah and the Muscat market. “This is a natural extension of a wholly Omani owned and operated container shipping solution connecting Omani Ports”,says Nicholas Fisher, CEO of Oman Shipping Company.

The GEX service calls Salalah every Thursday, Port Sultan Qaboos every Saturday and Jebel Ali every Sunday. “This service has continued to achieve 100%schedule reliability since the start up in February this year, guaranteeing international connections to/from global markets and delivering our expectations” says Jakob Larson, General Manager for OCL.

A regional feeder operator, OCL is a fully owned subsidiary of Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C., which is in turn owned by the Government of the Sultanate of Oman through the Ministry of Finance (80%) and Oman Oil Company S.A.O.C. (20%), headquartered in Muscat, Oman.
