Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) has received positive results from the deployment of its PB150 device in trials conducted off the north-east coast of Scotland.
The 150kW device was developed by OPT to work in arrays of multiple PowerBuoys to generate renewable energy at commercial-scale wave power stations across the globe.
The trials are expected to be continued for another one or two months.
The device generated 400kW of power with storm waves and 45kW with wave heights as low as 2m, which indicates that the system could generate about 150kW on average, in higher wave conditions.
The system has a wave data buoy that captures the incoming wave data and transmits this analysis to the OPT's engineers in UK and US.
