Rosmorport has developed a project for reconstruction of federal assets based at the port of Vyborg, the head of Rosmorport’s regional department told a St. Petersburg conference.
Sergey Pylin, director of North-West branch of Rosmorport, who was speaking at the Russian forum “Current State and Prospects for Development of Russian Bunker Services Market” in St. Petersburg, said some berths at the port had been built over 150 years ago. About 50% of waterfront has been in poor condition. The Rosmorport’s plan provides for reconstruction of berths number 2-5 and number 11-13, dredging of harbor and approach channel reconstruction. Currently, the project is undergoing the examination, he said.
The renovation project includes restoration of 750 rm of waterfront, deepening the harborage to the mark of 7.5 m. The port’s facilities reconstruction is expected to boost cargo throughput by 2.6 times to 3 million tons a year. Mr. Pylin said the Port of Vyborg will focus on handling containers, general and Ro-Ro cargo, while coal and other environmentally unfriendly cargoes will be shifted to the port of Ust-Luga and Vysotsk (Leningrad region).
Besides, the project includes development of passenger traffic and yacht tourism.
Port of Vyborg is a freezing port but is open for navigation year-round. The Port encompasses 16.2 ha and features 13 berths (waterfront -1480 rm) along the coastline of the Gulf of Vyborg. Throughput of the port in 2010 was 1,1 million tons.
