The head of RS Platou's dry cargo shipbroking desk in Singapore has resigned along with as many as seven members of his team, traders said on Wednesday.
Yahya Karahasan confirmed that he recently resigned as the Singapore director for dry cargo, but declined to comment further.
Up to six brokers, one trainee and an operations manager may have resigned in the last few weeks, said two trade sources with firms that are competitors with the Oslo-based company.
It was not clear how many dry cargo brokers were left on the Singapore team.
An RS Platou shipbroker in Singapore declined to comment, while a spokesman in Oslo could not immediately be reached.
RS Platou reported revenues of more than 994 million Norwegian kroner ($185 million) in 2010, up from 837 million kroner the previous year. Shipbroking represents 35 percent of its revenue with the remainder coming from its offshore business, finance and investment banking.
