The country's leading shipbuilder today handed over four ships to its buyers from home and abroad through a formal delivery function at the Chittagong Port.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan attended the function as chief guest, while Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu MP attended it as special guest. Shipping Secretary Abdul Mannan Hawladar, the Dutch ambassador in Dhaka and Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau Jalal Ahmed were present on the occasion.
Western Marine Shipyard handed over two vessels to the German buyer Grona Shipping as part of delivery of 12 Ice Class vessels. Each vessel for the German company was built at a cost of Tk 1000 million. The EMSTIDE and EMSWAVE are the fifth and sixth vessels delivered while another two vessels will be handed over to the foreign company by next December.
Managing Director of Grona Shipping Ebbe Prins received the vessels from the MD of Western Marine, Engineer Shakhawat Hossain.
Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Abdul Mannan Hawladar received the pilot-cum-service vessel PV Rakkhi while Chairman of BIWTC (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority) Golam Mostafa Kamal received the Ro-Ro ferry Bir Sreshtha Ruhul Amin from the Western Marine Shipyard authorities.
