Nuclear service provider Studsvik has signed a Skr94.5m ($13.6m) contract with EDF Energy Nuclear Generation to carry out material testing on nuclear components.
The Skr13.5m ($1.93m) a year contract, signed for a seven-year period, involves the annual testing irradiated fuel and fuel components from advanced gas cooled reactors.
The testing will be carried out at Studsvik's facilities and made in support of the safety cases, as well as the operation of EDF Energy Nuclear Generation's UK AGR reactors.
Magnus Arbell, Studsvik Nuclear president, said the contract is vital to the business of Studsvik's Global Services segment.
"This Segment is Studsvik's most research-intensive, with areas such as the development of fuel optimization software, qualified materials technology competence and consulting services for nuclear safety" added Arbell.
Stuart Crooks, EDF Energy Nuclear Generation chief technical officer, said the company is pleased to enter into a long-term agreement with Studsvik that will strengthen the relationship further in support of the safe, reliable operation of its fleet of power stations.
The contract may be extended for a further ten years.
Recently, Studsvik also signed a £8m contract with LLW Repository (LLWR) to provide technical services at the Magnox nuclear power station in Gloucestershire, England.
Under the contract, Studsvik agreed to transport and treat five redundant heat exchangers from the decommissioned Magnox power station.
Studsvik is a provider of advanced technical services to the international nuclear power industry in waste treatment, decommissioning, engineering and services, as well as operating efficiency.
