PetroChina's Sulige gas field, China's largest onshore gas field, is expected produce 13.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas this year, 27% more than in 2010,
said China National Petroleum Corp in a statement
CNPC said earlier that it plans to increase the gas field's annual output to 23 billion cu m by 2015. In 2010, the gas field's natural gas output was 10.6 billion cu m.
Sulige gas field, located in the resource-rich North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, produced 4.6 billion cu m of natural gas in 2008 and 8.2 billion cu m in 2009.
Since 2007, Sulige gas field added between 150 billion cu m and 200 billion cu m of proven natural gas reserves each year. So far, the gas field's proven natural gas reserves have reached 2.85 trillion cu m.
In the first five months, the country's output of natural gas climbed 6.6% year on year to 42.6 billion cubic meters, and its natural gas imports nearly doubled to 11.4 billion cu m, accounting for more than one fourth of the country's total consumption. The apparent consumption of natural gas grew 20.2% year on year to 52.9 billion cu m in the first five months, according to an earlier report from China Knowledge.
