Tohoku Electric to Acquire More Power as Demand Grows

Tohoku Electric Power has received an additional power supply of 300MW from Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) to avoid rolling blackouts and to meet the increasing demands.

The company will receive about 1,100MW of power from TEPCO, increasing its power supply to 12,760MW, reports Reuters.

Tohoku is struggling to gain power supplies because heavy rains have halted the production of 1,000MW of power from its hydroelectric plants.

For now, the company will also be unable to restart its closed nuclear plants, over public concerns for safety following the quake in March.
