Two Ships Sink Off Philippines

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that two cargo ships sunk off the Philippines last Sunday.

The MV Seaford 2 cargo vessel, owned by Seaford Shipping Lines, carrying 35,000 bags of cement, sank off the capital town of San Jose in Antique province in the early hours of Sunday. The vessel was carrying around 7,000 liters of diesel fuel in its tanks when it sank. The 18 crew members were rescued by fishermen.

The Antique officials and coastguard conducted monitoring activities in order to detect any possible oil spill from the sunken vessel.

Furthermore, late on Saturday afternoon, Panamanian vessel carrying iron ore, the MV Sun Spirit, sent a distress signal since it started to sink off the island province of Catanduanes in the Bicol region.

The vessel, owned by Yokohama Marine and Merchant, with 14 crew aboard, was sailing for China with a cargo of iron ore and sand from Leyte province in the Visayas, when it ran into trouble. 11 crew members were rescued by a passing ship and 3 by fishermen.
