UK: ‘Helen Burnie’ Leaves Macduff Shipyards to Commence Operations

In June 2012, The “Helen Burnie”, completed by Macduff Shipyards, a 27.5m multi purpose cargo vessel, left Macduff to commence operations delivering fish farm feed. Designed by Macduff Ship Design in conjunction with Macduff Shipyards.

The vessel, worth GBP 2 million is specially designed by Inverlussa Marine Services for renewable energy, dive support, survey and civil projects. It has the ability to carry up to 100 tonnes of deck cargo, 75 tonnes of fuel and 25 tonnes of fresh water. It offers modular accommodation with three two-compartment crew cabins.

The Helen Burnie has the latest technology equipment for specialist offshore windfarm and tidal survey work. With all the features, it can join Scotland’s renewable energy market in the very time of its rapid growth.
