Turbine Transfers Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Holyhead Towing Company, has been awarded a multi-million-pound contract by RWE npower renewables to provide six crew transfer vessels for the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm.
In addition, the company will provide two more vessels for the German Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm, the Daily Post reports.
The deal will create at least 20 working positions with the vessels, which will operate from RWE npower renewables’ base for foundations installation, on the banks of the River Mersey in Birkenhead and from the Port of Mostyn, its O&M base for Gwynt y Môr, once fully operational in 2014.
Edwina Hart, Wales Business Minister, said that the support to regional economy and local employment from big projects like this one is of great importance.
Thanks to the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind project, a considerable amount of money has been invested into businesses across Wales and the UK. The investment in Wales, with the latest contract included, totals to over GBP 80 million.
