Wärtsilä Receives Large Order For Brazil

Wärtsilä has been commissioned to construct a 380 MW power plant in Brazil. Commercial operation is scheduled to being in January, 2012, and the project represents the largest plant built by Wärtsilä anywhere in the world, said the company.
The order came from Energética Suape II SA, a company jointly owned by CIBE Participação SA and Petrobras. An operations and maintenance contract is also under negotiation between Wärtsilä and the customer.

The plant will be powered by Wärtsilä 20V46 generating sets, operating on heavy fuel oil. The electricity will be fed to the national grid to supplement the country’s primarily hydropower generation, which tends to be subject to seasonal fluctuations.

The plant will be built in the Suape industrial district of the town of Cabo in the province of Pernambuco, North Eastern Brazil. Wärtsilä has delivered or is constructing a total of 22 power plants in Brazil, said the company, for a totally generating capacity of more than 2000 MW.
