Western Marine Shipyard to Build Four Ships for German Owner


Country’s leading shipbuilding company, Western Marine Shipyard, will build four ships for the German owner. Managing Director of Western Marine Shipyard Ltd Sakhawat Hossain has recently signed an agreement with Managing Director of Netherlands based MK Shipping BV Mr. M. Vedder in Hamburg, Germany to build four 5200 DWT MP vessels at Euro 7.9 million each ship.

Later, MK Shipping BV will deliver the ships to the German owner. Western Marine expects to deliver these ships to the MK Shipping by March 2013.

Western Marine is already engaged in shipbuilding for German buyers. The company has delivered six MPC ships to Grona Shipping of Germany only within a time span of 9 months which could be done only be the best shipyards in the world.

The Managing Director Hossain said, “A new contract with Europe has proven Western Marine’s quality and time delivery in the international market of shipbuilding.”

Chairman of Western Marine Shipyard and president of Bangladesh German Chamber of Commerce and Industry Saiful Islam has also expressed his excitement saying this agreement will further enrich the bilateral trade between Europe and Bangladesh.

7.9 million Euros = 10.6808 million U.S. dollars
