Wilmington, Morehead City Close for Traffic ahead of Hurricane Arthur

Port Condition Whiskey was set for the Port of Wilmington, NC and Port Condition Zulu for the Port of Morehead City, NC at 1600 local time yesterday (3 July) in preparation of the anticipated impact of Hurricane Arthur.

Condition Zulu means all traffic is restricted. Therefore the port of Morehead City is closed to all inbound and outbound traffic, and no vessel may enter, depart or transit the safety zone without the permission of the Captain of the Port.

Vessels bound for Wilmington and Morehead City are advised to seek an alternative destination.

Hurricane Arthur, which is the first hurricane this season, has strengthened to a Category 2 Thursday evening as it reached North Carolina’s Outer Banks, packing winds of 100mph.

A state of emergence has been declared in 25 counties on the coast or in its immediate vicinity.

Arthur is expected to weaken as it heads offshore north east today along the East Coast.
