Wärtsilä to supply Indonesia's first gas-fired combustion engine based peaking power plant

Wärtsilä, a provider of lifecycle power solutions, will supply Indonesia's first ever gas engine based peaking power plant. The plant, located in Sei Gelam Jambi in Sumatra, is scheduled to be built and fully operational before the end of 2012.

To stick to the tight time schedule of construction works, delivery of all necessary plant equipment will be made on a fast-track basis, Wärtsilä said today.

The plant will be powered by eleven 20-cylinder Wärtsilä 34SG generator sets in V-configuration, operating on compressed natural gas and providing an output of 110 MW. Wärtsilä will also supply the necessary auxiliary equipment as well as building materials.

When operational, the plant will be the first ever gas-fired combustion engine based peaking power plant in Indonesia.

Plant to provide additional supply during evening peak load hours

PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PT. PLN), the Indonesia's state-owned utility company, said it will utilize the new plant primarily to supply power during the evening peak load hours.

PT PP (Persero) Tbk, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction main contractor to PT. PLN, selected Wärtsilä as the preferred supplier "based on the company's proven capability to deliver high quality, and extremely efficient power plant solutions, on a fast-track basis," Taufiq Aria, Head of EPC Division, PT PP (Persero) Tbk said.
